DriveTax Express Tax
Jess here, hello and welcome to DriveTax Express Tax! This form will gather everything I need to lodge your tax return.
IMPORTANT: If you drive rideshare for Uber, please note that Uber’s Annual Tax Summaries are incorrect, they only include eleven months of income. Instead, we’ll need to receive your Monthly Uber Tax Summaries in order to complete your tax return. Once you’ve submitted your Express Tax form we’ll ask you to email your Monthly Tax Summaries through to us.
Before you start, make sure all of your employer Payment Summaries and your private health insurance details (if applicable) are showing on your MyGov, and check you have all other required end-of-financial year statements and documents as per the list below.
Please don’t start your Express Tax form until ALL of your income is showing as final in your MyGov report, and all your documents are ready to send to us.
- Before you begin, make sure you’ve checked out our Get Ready Guide and have your documents and information handy.
- The form will take 20-30 minutes to complete, depending on how complex your return is.
- If there’s anything you’re unsure about, or any deductions you don’t know if you can claim, you’ll find a comments box at the end of each section of the form. Feel free to write me a note, and I’ll get back to you when I process your return.
- Once you’ve submitted your form you’ll get a confirmation email right away. During peak tax season I’ll begin processing your return within two to three weeks, or at quieter times of year it will be one to two weeks. I’ll always touch base to let you know of any delays.
- Your tax return will be processed by me personally. If I have any queries or can suggest any potential extra tax deductions I’ll be in touch via email and we can chat further.
- Once your return is complete I’ll email it to you for review and signature, together with your invoice and final instructions to arrange for lodgment.
If you need a hand along the way I’m here to help. Email me anytime at info@drivetax.com.au.

Get Ready Guide
Our Get Ready Guide explains how to prepare for your tax appointment, and what documents you will need.
Pre-Tax Checklist
TFN, ABN & Bank Account Details – you’ll need these handy if you haven’t lodged with us before
Annual or Monthly Tax Summaries – for Uber we need your Annual Tax Summary. For DiDi, please download your Monthly Tax Summaries (not the Tax Invoices or Tax Statements). For Shebah we need your Monthly Income Summaries. For delivery companies such as DoorDash and Menulog, if they give you an annual tax summary you can send us that, otherwise just add up the total of your income deposited in your bank account. If you lodged your all of your BAS’s through DriveTax you don’t have to resend your income again.
Rideshare & Delivery Expenses – if you used the DriveTax Spreadsheet, you won’t need to enter your expenses here, you can just email us your spreadsheet once you’ve submitted your form. (Note that there are still some extra expense questions in the form that you’ll need to answer). If you didn’t use the DriveTax Spreadsheet that’s okay. Instead, you’ll need your expenses totalled per category (e.g. totals for fuel, insurance, mobile phone, water, mints etc). See our blog post on Tax Deductions for Rideshare & Delivery Drivers to see what you can claim.
Logbook Percentage – if you kept a logbook, calculate your logbook percentage and fill it into the Express Tax form. See here for more information.
Car Purchase Invoice – if applicable
Interest Paid on Car Loan – if applicable
Employee Deductions – our Get Ready Guide above gives suggestions for deductions you can claim
Rental Property Details – see our Get Ready Guide above for the details you’ll need
Spouse Income – if applicable, just an estimate is fine
Last Year’s Tax Return – this is essential if you did not lodge through DriveTax last year and you claimed depreciation or had carried forward losses
Items You DON’T Have To Provide – the ATO will provide us with your employee payment summaries, Centrelink income, JobSeeker income, bank interest, dividend income, private health insurance, and HELP debts. You don’t need to send these items to us.
FAQ’s
Yes, the ATO will have get your payment summaries, bank interest, Centrelink income and Private Health Insurance. However these can take a few weeks to arrive after the end of the financial year.
No, but you need to keep them on file for five years after lodging your return in case the ATO asks to see them.
The ATO will accept bank statements or other electronic records for expenses under $1,000. If you don’t have any record then you cannot claim a deduction.
As long as the logbook started before the 30th of June you can use it for that year’s tax return. You will need to wait until the 12 weeks is complete before lodging your tax return.
If you didn’t keep a logbook then we will use the cents per km method instead. See our article on Tax Deductions for Uber Drivers for more information.
It depends. If you lodge your own tax return, or if you have lodged a tax return late in the past, it is the 31st of October. If you have always lodged your tax returns on time, and you will use DriveTax or another tax agent this year, it is the 15th of May the the following year.
From July to October please allow three weeks, although we do finish most tax returns sooner than this. At other times of year allow two weeks.
We will issue your invoice once your tax return is complete, and we’ll email it to you together with your tax return for signature. Once we’ve received your payment we can then lodge your return to the ATO. We accept credit card, bank transfer and PayPal.
If you have a tax bill to the ATO, the due date will vary depending on when we lodge your return. We can delay lodgment of your tax return if you like, in which case your tax bill can be due as late as May, 11 months after the end of the financial year. You can also choose to set up a payment arrangement with the ATO, you can read more about this option here.
The ATO’s standard processing time is 12 business days from lodgment. They will then deposit your refund directly into your bank account.
The ATO now send all Notices of Assessment to your MyGov. Allow two weeks after lodgment for your tax return to be processed and then you can log into your MyGov to download your Notice of Assessment.
IMPORTANT #1: Take care not to refresh the page, as this will reset your form and entries.
IMPORTANT #2: We have had to temporarily remove the ‘Save & Resume’ feature, due to problems with our form software.
Please make sure you have all your details ready before you begin, and consider taking screenshots or photos of your form as you go, just in case you need to stop and come back to your form later. If there’s any one question that you’re stuck on, feel free to just pop a note in the comments section of the form to let me know the problem. Then you can keep going with the form, and we can chat via email afterwards to get your question solved.
We’re actively working with our software provider to get the save feature fixed and back online, and we thank you for your understanding in the meantime. Please email us anytime if you have any questions!
